Functional medicine, Orthomolecular medicine, Holistic medicine, Naturopathic medicine, Alternative medicine, Complementary medicine, Nutritional medicine, and Chiropractic medicine, all have in common the fact that they are different from ALLOPATHIC medicine. Allopathic is what you get when you go for drugs and surgery.
You might ask, "what is wrong with drugs and surgery?". The answer is: nothing is wrong with it over all, but it, like all therapies, has it advantages and disadvanctages. The number one disadvantage, according to the AMA, is it is the leading cause of death in the USA.
Having said that, you must know, that Allopathic medicine is wonderful in some areas. In acute trauma, or emergency medicine no one else can compete with them. They are at the fore front of research that promises to extend the lenght of lives of people to unimaginable lenghts. But when it come to chronic health problems, they dont have a clue of how to make you healthy.
Who among us is not aware of the problems of vioxx, and so many other drugs that have been taken off the market. Many doctors have been petitioning the FDA to remove Tylenol because it causes many deaths. There are major problems with anti-depressants, drugs for making your bones strong such as Boniva, Fosamax, antibiotics, and many others.
This is why people have been turning to alternative therapies to advance their health. Alternative therapies, in general, have the advantage of not having so many adverse side effects, they also have some just not so many. The disadvantage to most of the alternative therapies is that they are slower acting and weaker than most medicines. Therefore it is sometimes necessary to use drugs, I believe that they should be the court of last resort.
